It was fantastic to attend the official opening of the Black & White Building, central London’s tallest mass timber office building and one of the most sustainable workspaces we have had the pleasure of collaborating on with The Office Group.
26th Jan 2023The final outcome, after many years of hard work by all involved, is stunning and is a testament to the vision and creativity of Charlie Green and Olly Olsen.
Designed by Waugh Thisleton Architects, engineered by Eckersley O'Callaghan and built by Hybrid Structures, the building frame is uniquely all-timber, comprising Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) beams and columns, a central timber core and Cross Laminated Limber (CLT) floors and walls.
Accounting for timber sequestration, the building's sustainability credentials are exemplary, with embodied carbon falling well within RIBA and LETI targets.
Opera acted as project manager, EQ and client advisor to TOG from the initial feasibility stages of the project, leading the team through challenging innovative design, procurement and demolition and construction phases.
Achieving this milestone has been a real team effort, with thanks to Parkeray, Gardiner & Theobald, EEP, Elliott Wood, Contrasol, Pacegrade, Daytrip, and Point 2.
