Rutland Mills

Dating back to the nineteenth century, Rutland Mills is a derelict 9,300m2 textile mill complex adjacent to the Hepworth Gallery at the edge of the River Calder in Wakefield.

The developers, City & Provincial, envision a rich and thriving cultural hub with facilities for music and digital studios, start-ups, creatives and the local community. The scheme will also create Educational space, Hotel, F+B and complementary facilities to the Hepworth Gallery. Hawkins Brown have created an exciting masterplan which meets this vision and will additionally provide significant new public realm with a new courtyard and event space at its centre.

Opera are appointed as project manager supporting for City & Provincial’s aspirations and collaborating with Wakefield City Council in delivering appraisals necessary to secure grant funding support. Additionally, as project managers Opera and the design team have secured planning permission to start the works in the Autumn of 2019.
